Jagoda Szelc received the Audience Award of the 21st edition of the INTERPRETATIONS Katowice 2022 Festival, funded by the Mayor of Katowice, for the play “Machine” from the Polish Theater in Bydgoszcz. We present the profile and achievements of the winner.
She graduated in graphic design from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław and the Faculty of Film and Television Directing at the National Film School in Łódź.
Before she was on the set of her debut film “Tower. “A Bright Day” (2017), she made as many as 10 short feature and documentary etudes. Her films have been shown at many festivals, including: Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Hot Docs, Cannes Court Métrage, New Horizons and the Brooklyn Film Festival.
The film “Taki pejzaż” won the main award for a student film – the Golden Tadpole at Camerimage 2013. For the film “Tower. “A Bright Day” received awards for the best directorial debut and the best script at the Gdynia Film Festival 2017. The production was also included in the prestigious Forum section of the Berlin International Film Festival 2018.
In 2018, Jagoda Szelc was the winner of the “Polityka” Passport in the film category. In the same year, she completed her second feature-length film “Monument”, for which she received a Special Award at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.
She made her debut as a theater director with “Machine” at the Polish Theater in Bydgoszcz, produced in May 2021. Her second performance is “Smiling” at the Nowy Theater in Warsaw. Its premiere took place in June this year.
